Hasty's interior transformed

Just been to visit our narrow boat 'Hasty' now that our decorator has just finished painting the interior.
We're really pleased with the result - rather than sticking with the old scrumble which was too damaged to revive we've gone with a light finish throughout. It's been transformed thanks to Kelly's hard work.

Looking forward to putting in the finishing touches then on with the exterior paint job. With any luck shall be all finished by autumn.

Farm Sale in North Yorkshire

Kevin was away on Friday busy hunting at a farm sale near Boroughbridge. Great finds - lots of industrial style stuff that we really love.
So we are now the proud owners of two vintage hen huts which we shall be renovating for sale. Wrinkly tin roof, cast iron wheels to move them about. Perfect for the vintage lovers pampered chucks!

Find them on our ebay shop in the very near future.

Tyne Bridge

Visited Newcastle last week to see clients wanting their house redesigned.

Haven't been up for ages and enjoyed riding round in the MR2.

Forgot how impressive the Tyne Bridge is. With the top down on the car you got a great view of the structure you'd normally miss driving across it.

Designed by Mott Hay and Anderson inspired by Hell Gate Bridge in New York and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Built by Dorman Long and despite the dangers of the building work, only one worker died in the building of this structure.
.
The bridge was completed in 1928 and opened by King George V and Queen Mary, who were the first to use the roadway travelling in their Ascot landau. The bridge spans 531 feet (162 m) and the road deck is 84 feet (26 m) above the river level.

British Engineering at its best !

Last of the bluebells

Enjoyed a walk out in the drizzle this afternoon to see the last of the bluebells in Swinton Woods up at Masham.
Still stunning patches of violet blue in amongst the woods plus someones start at a woodland shelter framework.
Our two lurchers Maggie and Tara enjoyed the walk too but don't like hanging around to have the photos taken!
Then back to Suncatchers cafe in Masham for coffees and hot chocolate.

Camp Bestival Tickets Booked!

We're all very excited this week as we've finally got around to booking our tickets for Camp Bestival down in Dorset this July.

Went for the first time last year and really enjoyed ourselves. It's won best family festival for a few years in a row and there's lots for the children to do and its in a lovely setting. Highlights last year were the Gruffalo stage performance and The Blockheads.

This year we're looking forward to Elisa Doolittle plus Kevin & our six year old son can't wait to see Blondie! Who'd have thought Debbie Harry could evoke such a reaction after all these years.

Hunting in County Durham

Kevin has been out and about again today hunting for vintage treasure. He's unearthed a few more interesting finds at a farm in County Durham he was kindly invited to.

Our favourite are these fantastic 8 foot long sign written wooden panels from the sides of an old delivery truck which he rescued from a bonfire stack!

We think they'll look fantastic on a kitchen wall above shelving.

Festival of Vintage

We had a great time on our stand at the Festival of Vintage at York Racecourse on Saturday. The show had about 3500 visitors over the day who enjoyed not only browsing the stalls but also music and fantastic dancing displays from boogey to jive.
The vintage clothing on sale really inspired us to want to buy - so colourful and glamorous. Teamed with the hair and makeup they were turning out in the salon at the show I only wish my hair was long enough to have a 'vistory roll' put into it !
Red House's stand was full of admirers of our pedal car, union jack cupboard and floor lamp - which sold straight away.
Best sellers of the day were vintage school posters and polished printers letters.
Keep an eye open for more of our Red House reinvented creations on the website.
Looking forward already to next years event!

one of our chickens is missing

one of our five chickens has gone missing

She is the only one who strays from the orchard, and this time we cant find her. It does not look good,

Even Maggie one of our lurchers has joined in the search, but to no avail.

'HASTY'our narrowboat

'Hasty' our 48 foot narrowboat is undergoing extensive restoration, and we are just about to start repainting the interior next week, together with external oak replacement.

After previously living on my own narrowboat in the 1980's we bought Hasty two years ago at auction from British Waterways.

Its great being back on the cut.

Festival of Vintage York Racecourse

We've been busy over the Easter Weekend getting our stand ready for the Festival of Vintage on Saturday 30th April at York Racecourse.

It's the first fair of its type up here in the north and we're really looking forward to it.
There should be lots to see and do with music and dance through the decades, vintage shopping from fashion to homewares, vintage crafts plus make do and mend corner, classic car displays.......the list goes on.

Check it out on the website www.festivalofvintage.co.uk and www.discovervintage.co.uk

Hope to see you all there
